The 5 Kibbe families

Before the 13 types come the five families — each defined by a dominant balance of Yin (soft, rounded, delicate) and Yang (sharp, elongated, bold). Find the family that fits, then narrow to your exact type.

Frequently asked questions

What are the 5 Kibbe families?

The five Kibbe families are Dramatic (most Yang), Natural, Classic (balanced), Gamine and Romantic (most Yin). Each family groups the types that share a dominant relationship between Yin (soft, rounded) and Yang (sharp, elongated).

How are families different from types?

A family is the broad group; a type is the specific identity within it. For example, the Dramatic family contains two types — Dramatic and Soft Dramatic — that share a sharp skeleton but differ in how much soft flesh sits on top.

How do I find my Kibbe family?

Take the calibrated test in the Kibbe Body Type app. It reads your balance of Yin and Yang and places you in one of the 13 types, which tells you your family too.
